Dental Bridge

dental bridges

If you’re missing a tooth, dental bridges are one way to restore the look of your natural smile. A dental bridge utilizes the teeth adjacent to the gap in order to support an artificial tooth, called a pontic. Bridges are a great option if you don’t want to go with dental implants.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

  • They’re a more affordable option than dental implants.
  • A dental bridge will prevent your teeth from shifting to fill the gap.
  • They allow you to chew and speak normally again.
  • Bridges prevent any structural changes to your jaw and mouth.
  • Dental bridges are durable and last a long time.

What to Expect

It takes several appointments to complete your dental bridges. First, your dentist will prepare the adjacent teeth for the crown they will receive. He or she will then take an impression of your mouth so that your bridge can be created. You’ll be fitted with a temporary bridge while your permanent piece is being made.

Once your bridge is ready, you’ll return to the dentist to have it fitted. If no adjustments need to be made, your dentist will seal it in place and you’ll be ready to go!

It might take you a few days to get used to your new bridge. You should aim to eat soft foods during this time so that your mouth can heal, but after a few days you can eat and drink normally again.
