If you have an overbite, an under bite, or are concerned about the appearance of uneven teeth, orthodontics can help. Orthodontics aren’t just helpful for cosmetic purposes—an aligned bite is important for your overall comfort and oral health. Our office offers both traditional braces and Invisalign to help straighten your teeth and re-align your bite.
Traditional braces are a classic, affordable option for straightening your teeth. They consist of metal brackets that are temporarily attached to the front of each tooth and connected with wires. The wires are tightened every few teeth, causing the teeth to shift.
Traditional braces are ideal for children and young adults as they’re easy to maintain and can’t be removed or potentially lost. This type of braces traditionally takes less time to straighten teeth than Invisalign, as they exert more force on the teeth to cause a quicker change.
Invisalign is a system of clear aligners that fit over your teeth and are mostly unnoticeable to the naked eye. These aligners must be worn for about 22 hours per day in order to be effective, but can be removed for eating or brushing your teeth. Every few weeks you’ll swap out one aligner tray for a new one, moving through the entire series until your treatment is complete.
Note that Invisalign isn’t suited for every situation. Ask your dentist about whether Invisalign or traditional braces are right for you. To talk to your dentist about which type of braces is right for you or your child, call our office to make an appointment today!
