Dental Crowns

Crowns have been used for restoring teeth for many decades now. They are hollow on the inside and resemble the appearance of natural teeth on the outside. Crowns can be placed on teeth that are damaged or weak to restore them to their ideal aesthetics and functionality.

Frequently Asked Questions

You have a question? We have an answer.

What are Dental Crowns?
A crown is basically a cap for a damaged tooth. It can be made from a variety of materials, including metal or porcelain. You might have a crown over a molar that rarely shows, except when you yawn widely, or you might have crowns on your front teeth that were specifically designed to match your other teeth.
What is the purpose of a Crown?
A dental crown is a cover for a damaged tooth. It helps restore the normal shape, function, and size of the tooth.
Do Crowns last longer than Veneers?
The main difference between a veneer and a crown has to do with coverage. A dental crown covers the entire tooth, but a veneer only covers the front of your tooth. There’s also a difference in the thickness, with a crown being thicker than a veneer.

Their external appearance can mimic that of the natural teeth, which helps to keep them indistinguishable from the surrounding teeth and the teeth they are attached to.

How is a Crown Placed?

When you visit our dental practice for the initial consultation, our dentist, Dr. Zarghouni, will screen the teeth thoroughly and understand the severity of your oral concern. We will take scans and X-rays of the teeth to get a better view and detect any damage to them. Once your need for a crown is confirmed, we will prepare the affected tooth for restoration.

A thin layer of enamel will be removed from it, which is done to make space for the crown. Next, scans will be taken to create a digital impression of the tooth, which will be used as a reference for fabricating the crown. We will have the crown fabricated in a few days in a dental laboratory, during which we will place a temporary crown on the prepared tooth.

Once the permanent crown is ready for bonding, we will remove the temporary restoration from the tooth and clean it thoroughly. The tooth’s surface will be roughened using an etching liquid, which enables the crown to adhere well to the tooth. Once the crown is bonded to the tooth, a bite test will be taken and the crown will be polished to enhance its aesthetics.
