Dental bonding is one way to repair and reshape teeth that are chipped, cracked, or otherwise uneven. While the finished product is not as strong as porcelain veneers, the procedure is much cheaper.
What Is Composite Bonding?
Bonding is a procedure in which a type of tooth-colored composite resin is applied to teeth. When the resin hardens, it looks like a natural tooth. This process can be used to fix broken teeth, conceal imperfections like staining, or fill in gaps between teeth without the use of orthodontics.
Dental bonding acts like your tooth’s natural enamel and allows you to use the tooth for normal chewing. However, the resin is slightly more fragile than enamel. Be sure to use caution when biting on hard foods so as not to damage your new dental bonding. If they do become damaged, Dr. Zarghouni should be able to repair them easily.
How Is It Applied?
Dental bonding is a less involved procedure than porcelain veneers, as your tooth’s enamel does not need to be removed for dental bonds to be applied. First, your teeth will be painted with a gel that slightly etches the surface of your teeth, giving the resin something to adhere to. After that, Dr. Zarghouni will shape the resin over your tooth to achieve the desired effect.
Once the resin has been applied, it’s hardened using an LED light. Finally, Dr. Zarghouni will polish the resin, and you’ll be good to go.
