What are dentures?

Dentures are artificial teeth that have a natural appearance and give you your smile back if you have lost teeth from injury, disease, or decay. They are designed to look, feel, and function just like regular teeth, so nobody knows they aren’t your original ones.

Designed to fit over your gums, dentures are secure but can be easily removed at night or for cleaning.

What are the benefits of dentures?

Custom made dentures from Dr. Zarghouni at Prestigious Smiles Family Dentistry can:

  • Restore your smile
  • Improve your self-esteem
  • Make chewing easier
  • Improve speech
  • Fill out your face for a more youthful appearance

What is the difference between full and partial dentures?

Full dentures are used when all of your teeth are missing or need to be removed. When you get full dentures, Dr. Zarghouni removes any remaining teeth you have, then fits you for dentures once your gums have healed.

Partial dentures are similar to bridges and are an option when you’re missing only some teeth, but not all of them. These dentures fill in gaps where teeth are missing, but unlike permanent bridges, you can remove them whenever you want.

What do I do if my dentures feel loose?

Properly fitting dentures should feel comfortable and natural. If they are too loose, you may feel like they are going to fall out of your mouth.

When you get your dentures, they may feel loose for a week or two while you adjust. If after that, they don’t feel comfortable, contact Dr. Zarghouni to refit them.

How do I care for my dentures?

To prevent disease and keep them clean, fresh, and stain-free, you should care for your dentures by:

  • Removing and rinsing them after eating
  • Cleaning your mouth and gums with gentle brushing once removed
  • Brushing them twice daily
  • Soaking them overnight in water or a cleaning solution
  • Scheduling regular dental exams and check-ups

With proper care and oral hygiene, your dentures can last a lifetime.

If you are missing teeth due to gum disease or decay, or just want your natural smile back, dentures can be your solution. Make your appointment with Dr. Zarghouni at Prestigious Smiles Family Dentistry online or by contacting her office to learn more.
